Demon Slayer’s Tanjiro Gets New Costume For Classic Theater Adaptation


Tanjiro Kamado gets an all-new outfit to battle his foes in Japan’s upcoming Noh-Kyogen theatrical adaptation of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no YaibaTanjiro Kamado from has gotten a makeover in a new visual for the upcoming theatrical adaptation of the popular Japanese manga series.

As reported by otakomuthe recent poster featuring Tanjiro in his new outfit was illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge, the creator of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. It depicts the young hero in customary Noh clothing that mirrors the iconic black and green checkered haori he usually dons in the series.

The next theatrical performance will be a Noh-Kyogen show – Noh and Kyogen respectively being some of the oldest forms of classical theater still performed today. In Noh, actors typically wear masks to give dramatic performances featuring elements of dance, music, and poetry. On the other hand, Kyogen is more comedic through its use of dialogue and is usually staged between Noh sets.

the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba The Noh-Kyogen show will first take place at the Ginza Six Noh Theater from July 26 to July 31 in a limited time of 6 days. It will then be performed at the Ohtsuki Noh Theater in Osaka from December 9 to 11. Nomura Mansai II, an award-winning Kyogen performer, will direct and perform in the shows.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is set in Taisho-era Japan where dangerous ancient humans known as “demons” roam the planet. Protagonist Tanjiro Kamado witnesses these brutal beasts when he discovers that his entire family has been slaughtered by a demon. While her younger sister, Nezuko, manages to survive the attack, it comes at the cost of her humanity as she begins to transform into a monster herself. In order to find a way to turn Nezuko back into a human, Tanjiro joins an organization of warriors known as the Demon Slayer Survey Corps dedicated to taking down sinister creatures. Tanjiro embarks on an epic quest to battle various enemies and hunt down the demon responsible for his family’s disappearance.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the anime are available to stream on Funimation, Hulu, and Crunchyroll, along with the movie Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train. It was announced in February 2022 that the popular anime would return for a third season, which will adapt the manga’s “Swordsmith Village” arc.
