Paul Dano has offered a disclaimer for fans wanting to emulate his “homemade” Riddler costume, which he donned for the upcoming blockbuster The Batman.
The actor, who plays the Caped Crusader’s mysterious nemesis, revealed his attempt to form the character’s creepy appearance caused his brain to “become very tense” after just a day of filming.
Matt Reeves’ gritty new take on the DC classic stars Robert Pattinson, as the eponymous hero, and Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman.
Explaining his costume choice on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Dano said he wanted to make sure he lived up to the “meticulous” nature of his character.
“It’s more of a local costume,” he said.
“I wanted the details covered, he’s very meticulous…so I had to cover myself in cling film.”
“I wrapped myself in plastic wrap which looked scary because of the light and I thought I wasn’t going to lose any hair here at the crime scene.
“The first day of shooting, about an hour later, I start to see white and colors, and my brain gets very tense…and it’s day one, so you don’t want to be the actor who thinks “I have a little headache”.
“You suck it (but) you can’t sweat, that’s the problem, it goes up inside of you.
He continued: ‘I spent the first day not telling anyone and I came home and I’m probably Googling ‘brain swelling’ in my bed.
“The next day we started making holes in the plastic wrap, my head could breathe, things got a bit better.
Speaking directly to the audience, he said, “I might as well take this opportunity to offer a warning to any Halloween costumers or cosplayers: maybe skip the plastic wrap.”
Dano attended the star-studded premiere of The Batman in London last week alongside his bandmates.
The film will be released in UK cinemas on March 4.
