TUCSON (KVOA) — At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night at the Fox Theater in downtown Tucson, the Russian Ballet Theater company presented Swan Lake, one of the world’s most famous ballets, written and composed by a Russian in the 1870s.

This company has performed at the Fox Theater in the past.

On the Fox Theater website, under the listing for this event, the Russian Ballet Theater has posted a message stating that it is an American company and is made up of dancers from all over the world, including Japan , Italy, Russia and Belarus. , Poland and even Ukraine. They also say they dance for peace.

When News 4 Tucson spoke with Fox Theater executive director Bonnie Shock, she defended the performance.

“I think it will be a wonderful opportunity for people to see an international company come together and, as they said themselves, dance for peace,” she said. “There is no funding that comes from the Russian government. There is no benefit that goes to the Russian government.”

The Russian Ballet Theater also wrote that some of their dancers had families currently in danger due to the conflict in Ukraine.

They asked and thanked people for their support.
