Denison, Texas – July 31 is the deadline to apply for a $1,424 Certified Practical Nursing Fellowship at Grayson College. Scholarship funding is available through a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission Self-Sufficiency Fund. These bursaries are intended to help people who are at risk of becoming dependent on public assistance and people earning less than $37,000 a year with a dependent child. A high school diploma is not required to enroll in the Certified Nurse Aide program.

“Grayson College is proud to seek grants that allow us to specifically serve members of our community who want to change their lives, their futures, and the futures of their dependents,” said GC President Dr. Jeremy McMillen. “This scholarship makes nursing aide education accessible to more students, meets the needs of local employers, and supports Texoma’s economy.”

Scholarships are available for one of the next two certified nurse aide training courses:

  • August 15 to October 14, 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays
  • From September 6 to October 29, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays, plus four Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All training will take place using a hybrid model. Students will have online classes coupled with in-person classes focusing on the mandatory skills of the training.

Fellows will receive additional support to help them meet the requirements to enroll in the Certified Nurse Aide program as well as gain employment upon successful completion. Funding is available to cover expenses related to demonstrating compliance with vaccination requirements for registration. In preparation for entering the workforce as certified nurse aides, students will receive vouchers for five sets of medical scrubs.

Acceptance of the scholarship requires successful completion of the Certified Nurse Aide program. Recipients should also seek employment as a Certified Nurse Aide immediately upon successful completion of the course. To date, 18 students have benefited from Self-Sufficiency Fund scholarships. Available funds can fund scholarships for up to 82 additional students.
