On The Masked Singer, Space Bunny was revealed to be legendary singer Shaggy. Now he’s sharing what he couldn’t see in his costume while performing.
During the last episode of The Masked Singer season 7, Space Bunny turned out to be legendary reggae singer Shaggy, and he admitted he couldn’t see very well while performing in his costume. The theme of The Masked Singer is The Good, The Bad and The Cuddly, and Space Bunny was a member of Team Cuddly. The costume consisted of a cute tan bunny wearing a white spacesuit with red and blue stripes, with gloves and boots. The mask had mechanical white bunny ears that popped out of the helmet and large moving blue eyes.
In Week 1, Shaggy as Space Bunny performed “Jump In The Line” by Harry Belafonte. During the second week, he sang “All Night Long (All Night)” by Lionel Richie. He ended up in the bottom two and sang “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me” in a duel with Baby Mammoth, who turned out to be Kirstie Alley. Space Bunny made it to the next round and sang Heavy D & the Boyz’s “Now That We Found Love” with Aaron Hall. For their final guesses, two panel members, Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger, correctly guessed Shaggy, but Jenny McCarthy thought he was Sean Kingston and Ken Jeong wondered if he was Owen Wilson. Shaggy was eliminated from competition with the Queen Cobras, who were revealed to be En Vogue, sending Prince to the finals.
In an interview with Hollywood life, Shaggy confessed that he couldn’t see while performing in the Space Bunny costume. He explained, “There’s not a lot of visibility. That’s where the choreography comes in to know where to go and where to turn and all that. It took a few practices to get that because the visibility isn’t very good .” Shaggy joined a long line of other singers from The Masked Singer season 7 who said they couldn’t see in their costumes, including Christie Brinkley as Lemur; Jorge Garcia as Cyclops; Dog the Bounty Hunter, who fell on stage as Armadillo; and Duff Goldman, who accidentally knocked his McTerrier mask off his head when he nearly fell off the stage because he couldn’t see.
Shaggy admitted that the size of the Space Bunny costume was another challenge for him while performing. He revealed he didn’t know “what size” it was at the beginning. He said, “He looks really, really small. I came into the studio and was like, ‘Wow, this thing is huge.’ When I put it on I realized it wasn’t super heavy, but running around in it for hours on end does get heavy.” Despite this, Shaggy was able to incorporate some dance moves into his routines, which allowed the panel to get up and dance near their seats.
The revelation of Grammy-winning Shaggy as Space Bunny was a treat for fans of The Masked Singer. Although his costume was bulky and hard to see, he delivered some truly entertaining performances. Shaggy’s appearance as Space Bunny on The Masked Singer was definitely out of this world.
