On July 1, 2021, history was written at the Parc des Pionniers.
The Lied Center for Performing Arts presented “ABT Across America” from the American Ballet Theater in Lincoln, kicking off a cross-country tour of outdoor venues that also included Chicago’s Millennium Park and New York’s Rockefeller Center.
As a gift to the community and to celebrate the ability to come together again to be inspired by the arts, the Lied performed the show for free, welcoming people from Lincoln and beyond to enjoy a beautiful evening of ballet under the stars free of charge. .
The community reacted in a massive way, with an estimated attendance of over 6,000 people to see America’s National Ballet Company’s exceptional art in full display. This was the largest audience to attend an ABT show in 25 years, and it is also believed to be the largest audience to attend a traditional performing arts event in the history of Lincoln and possibly Nebraska.
The free tickets meant the world-class show was accessible to both dance enthusiasts and new audiences, families of all sizes, and students from across the region. The event garnered national media attention, including a report on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, inclusion in Vogue Magazine’s ‘Where to Go’ weekend report and a spotlight by the arts network.
