Brie Larson Pushed Her Body ‘Far Beyond’ Expectations While Training for Captain Marvel

Brie Larson has upped her fitness game to play Captain Marvel.

The Oscar-winning actor, 32, went from being unable to “climb a hill without getting out of breath” to being able to do four 400-pounds. hip shots as part of his lineup for the title role in 2019 Captain Marvel.

“So I started this journey thinking I would get strong and I had no idea. I went way beyond what I thought was possible for my body,” she told Insider. .

She added: “Being able to hip push 400 pounds, lift 200 pounds, push my trainer’s Jeep, I mean, it’s an amazing experience to realize that what’s at the inside of you is far beyond what you knew possible.”

Before joining the Marvel universe, the Hall the actress was not a big fan of the gym.

“I affectionately called myself ‘an asthmatic introvert’ before playing Carol Danvers and started training out of sheer panic,” she said.

Taking on the superhero role was a game-changer for Larson.

“That’s part of why I’m not surprised that this character was able to reverberate outwardly, because she changed my life first and foremost,” she added. “So it makes sense to me that she could change other lives as well.”

With the help of celebrity trainer Jason Walsh, Larson became “a little obsessed” with her fitness routine – which she documents on social media – especially as she prepared to reprise the role of the sequel to come, Wonders.

Larson continued to push himself towards new goals while training for the second film.

“When people say, ‘Oh, girls can’t do that,’ it makes me want to do it even more,” she said. “So there’s been huge accomplishments this time around and I just feel like my body is getting more and more used to it and more and more excited.”

Larson sees the parallels between his own fitness journey and his character’s story.

“In the first film, she developed that strength, and so I was developing my own personal strength with this one,” she explained.

She continued, “She’s already more in control of her powers. She can fly now. And so having my body more flexible, more ready for these types of moves like wirework, which I didn’t have to do as much on the first one, was the principal objective.”
